Since joining POWWR in June 2023, Clair Staines has transformed the People function, embedding a culture of high performance, empowerment, accountability, and inclusion. Her strategic leadership has aligned HR initiatives with business goals, driving measurable improvements across the organisation.
Clair focused on three key areas: financial wellbeing, cultural transformation, and leadership development. She partnered with Octopus Money to provide financial coaching, mortgage advice, and salary sacrifice schemes – initiatives that led to 81% of employees feeling fairly compensated.
To drive cultural change, Clair introduced OKRs to align individual performance with business objectives and led employee workshops to redefine company values. Monthly all-hands meetings fostered transparency and trust. These efforts resulted in a remarkable shift in POWWR’s employee Net Promoter Score – from negative figures to +55 – and an engagement score of 88%.
Clair also prioritised leadership development by establishing clear roles, encouraging empathy, and ensuring every voice is valued. This empowered leadership style directly contributed to POWWR’s highest-ever revenue growth of 35% in 2024.
Clair’s commitment to inclusivity is reflected in policies promoting fairness and equity across all roles. Her personal involvement in workshops and open forums ensured HR strategies were employee-led and effectively implemented.
