Matt Elliott
Chief People Officer, Bank Of Ireland
As Chief People Officer at Bank of Ireland, Matt Elliott has transformed the organisation’s people strategy by embedding a culture of care aligned to the Bank’s purpose: Enabling Colleagues to Thrive. His leadership has driven measurable improvements in inclusion, wellbeing, engagement, and future skills—underpinning both cultural and business transformation.
In 2024, colleague engagement reached a record 75%—a 19-point rise since 2019. Central to this success is Matt’s bold inclusion strategy. Recognising neurodivergence as a key gap, he launched a 3-year Neuroinclusion Strategy, including policy, training for 5,600+ colleagues and 1,200+ managers, and 140+ neuropositive ambassadors. The strategy received national media recognition and sparked emotional impact across the Bank, particularly among parents of neurodivergent children. Matt also partnered with Dublin City University on pioneering research into barriers to employment for neurodivergent people.
Matt connects societal issues to practical workplace solutions. He introduced a Domestic Abuse Policy, suicide prevention training, and mental health support initiatives—saving lives and improving colleague wellbeing. His approach to hybrid working fosters connection and combats social isolation, reflecting his commitment to holistic support.
Driving simplification, Matt launched a new, user-friendly reward platform, with 25% of colleagues actively customising their benefits. He also led the CEO-sponsored review of the Bank’s operating model, supporting the corporate strategy of creating a “simpler business.”
In 2024, 48% of leadership appointments were women, and 19% of new hires were from ethnic minority backgrounds—far exceeding national averages.
Matt’s visionary, compassionate leadership is shaping a more inclusive, future-ready, and resilient Bank of Ireland.
